About Carnegie

Carnegie is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located 12 kilometres south-east of the city’s central business area. The City of Glen Eira is its local government area. The primary retail district of the neighbourhood is a well-known ‘eat street,’ with cafés and restaurants along Koornang Road from Dandenong Road to Neerim Road. Between Koornang Road, Munro Avenue, and Lyons Street, you’ll find Koornang Park and the Carnegie Swim Centre.

Originally named Rosstown after notable property developer and entrepreneur William Murray Ross, the name was changed owing to Ross’ failing speculative plans. It was renamed Carnegie in 1909. There is no contemporaneous evidence to support the theory that this was done in a failed effort to acquire financing for a library from benefactor Andrew Carnegie.

Carnegie is all about world cuisine, trendy cafés, and community facilities that make its neighbours jealous. With a combination of elegant and modern houses designed for family-friendly living, Carnegie is genuinely in a lifestyle league of its own.
